I am currently working on becoming a Registered Play Therapist through the Association of Play Therapy and am being supervised also by Norma Cruson, M.Ed., NCC, LPC-S, RPT-S, BC-TMH. In counseling, I consider myself an Adlerian-based therapist who collaborates with you on discovering negative emotional and thought patterns that influence your every day life to facilitate new healthy ways of coping and connecting. Through a variety of proven methods such as play therapy, individual talk therapy, filial therapy, group therapy, and mindfulness-based practices we can work together to help you find insight and feel more connected to others so you can live your life more fully. I offer in-person Saturday appointments. For online appointments, I offer Monday through Friday sessions in the evenings, and various times on the weekends. My name is Johannah Song and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor Intern supervised by Norma Cruson M.Ed, NCC, LPC-S, RPT-S, BC-TMH. I graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Psychology from Texas A&M University in 2016 and received a Masters Degree in Counseling from the University of North Texas in 2019. I am currently providing group and family counseling at a partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient program for children and adolescents. I discovered my passion for counseling adolescents when I worked at the Denton County Juvenile Detention during my internship at UNT, and my enthusiasm has blossomed at my current site. As a personcentered therapist, I am a strong believer in the power of empathy, unconditional positive regard, and nonjudgmental acceptance. I believe the effectiveness of therapy relies significantly on the therapeutic relationship I have with my kiddos. My priorities as a counselor are to encourage my clients to believe in their own abilities and capabilities,
see their own self-worth, and to have the confidence to make positive decisions.
Throughout my professional and academic experience, I have worked with survivors of sexual assault, abuse, and domestic violence; adolescents and adults with suicidal and self-harm urges; kids struggling with controlling their anger; members of the LGBTQ+ community; and adolescents presenting with disordered eating behaviors. I have a very holistic approach to counseling and do my best to provide my clients with the unique services they need. I offer in-person appointments on Saturdays as well as online appointments on Monday – Friday and weekends. If you wish to schedule with Johannah Song, please call the office at 817-932-3158.
